Nitecore EDC27 flashlight review
The Nitecore EDC27 immediately caught my eye when it was released a few months back due to its amazing specs, yet affordable price to many. The flashlight delivers an impressive maximum output of 3000 lumens, thanks to its 2 x Luminus SST40 LEDs all contained within a small, compact device. Although I’m not a huge fan of the design of the light, entirely personal preference, it does offer a great carry experience thanks to its long, slender, and thin design.
Powered by a built-in 1700mAh li-ion battery, this flashlight offers exceptional performance. It can be conveniently recharged via USB-C using the included USB charging cable. One notable feature is the proximity sensor, which detects obstructions close to the LEDs and automatically adjusts the brightness to prevent overheating. A quick word of warning if you’re considering this flashlight.
Operating the EDC27 is a breeze, thanks to its user-friendly dual-switch user interface located at the tail end of the flashlight. With five brightness levels and a strobe mode, you have plenty of options to suit your needs. The multi-functional OLED display screen offers real-time information on brightness levels, remaining runtime, battery voltage, and lockout mode. The torch also incorporates a half and full lockout mode, indicated by the numbers 1 or 2 respectively on the screen, ensuring accidental activation is minimized. It’s very intuitive to use unlike many flashlights and I picked it up very quickly.
The EDC27 sets a new standard in flashlight design with its slimline and compact form factor. Crafted from high-strength stainless steel, the torch features a Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) titanium coating and matte finish, providing excellent resistance to scratches and fingerprints. I’ve been using the EDC27 for around 2 months now and so far have not noticed any visible wear or tear on the device, which shows testament to the quality of the device.
Overall, The Nitecore EDC27 flashlight is a game-changer, combining exceptional performance with a sleek and robust design. With its powerful 3000 lumens output and a range of brightness levels, it caters to a variety of lighting needs. The compact form factor and durable construction make it an ideal everyday carry flashlight. While the locking mechanism may take some getting used to, the overall usability and convenience of this flashlight outweigh any minor drawbacks. This light can get very hot and people have been known to melt the plastic lens (cover protection). This shouldn’t be an issue with proper care but just something to keep in mind. For those seeking a high-quality flashlight with outstanding functionality, the Nitecore EDC27 is an excellent choice.
